1. Opening
Open Apni Aaj from the navbar to see today's panchang (Hindu calendar day information). The page defaults to today's date and your city when available, and shows the key daily information at a glance.
2. Changing the date
- Use the date picker (the big date at the top of the page) to jump to any day — past or future. The ‹ and › arrows step one day at a time.
- The panchang recalculates instantly for the chosen date.
- Directly under the date, the Aaj / Today button returns you to the current day (it is disabled when you are already on today).
- Beside it, the Amavasyant / Poornimant button switches the lunar reckoning: it shows the system currently in use and clicking it flips to the other one. Only the lunar month / paksha labels change — the civil date never shifts.
3. Calendar systems
Dates are shown in the relevant calendar systems so you can cross-reference:
- Vikram Samvat (the traditional Hindu calendar)
- Shaka Samvat (national calendar)
- Gregorian (the civil date)
The lunar month name depends on the chosen system:
- Amavasyant (અમાવસ્યાંત / અમાંત) — the West Indian (Gujarat) system: the month ends on Amavasya (no-moon day). This is the site default.
- Poornimant (પૂર્ણિમાંત) — the North Indian system: the month ends on Poornima (full-moon day). In Krishna paksha the month name is one ahead of the Amavasyant reckoning.
The tithi itself is identical in both systems — only the month name (and therefore festival months) shift. The page also shows the day's festival / vrat (fast) entries and important panchang elements like tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana.
4. What's shown
| Item | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Tithi | The lunar day. |
| Nakshatra | The lunar mansion the moon is in. |
| Muhurat | Auspicious time windows for starting work, ceremonies, etc. |
| Choghadiya | The day/night time divisions — which are good or bad for travel & work. |
| Festivals / vrats | Special days, fasts and observances. |
Locations and sunrise/sunset times adjust to your chosen city so the timings are locally accurate.
4.1 Timing-first display (Sep 2026)
In the three timing-critical sections — main panchang (tithi, paksha, nakshatra, yog, karan, rashi), sun & moon times (sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset) and special information (ritu, ayan, day length, moon phase) — the values/timings are bold while the labels are light, so the times you came for are the first thing your eye finds. The main panchang grid also uses the accent-bottom card style, matching the sun-moon and special-info sections for a consistent look.
Troubleshooting
- Timings look wrong — make sure your city is set (Profile → My City); panchang timings are location-dependent.
- Festivals missing — the festival list follows the panchang data source; contact the site admin if an entry is missing or incorrect.
