1. What it is and where it appears
The marquee belongs to the shared header, so it appears on every page — home, category, article, video, ePaper and the rest. Because the header is sticky it also stays with you while you scroll, and on phones it sits directly under the logo bar.
- Every headline is a link: tapping one opens the full story.
- Each entry shows the story's picture together with its full headline. Headlines are never shortened and never cut off with an ellipsis.
- The newest stories lead. As the newsroom publishes and updates stories through the day, the strip changes with them — a story that is edited moves back to the front.
- The whole strip is wrapped in a small red Breaking News badge.
2. Reading it comfortably
The strip moves continuously, but it is built to be easy to click rather than a race:
- Pause it with the pointer. Rest your mouse anywhere on the strip and the movement stops, so you can read a headline and click it calmly. Move the pointer away and it starts again.
- Pause it with the keyboard. Press Tab until you reach the strip and it stops as well — every headline can be reached and opened without a mouse.
- Prefer no movement at all? If your device or browser is set to reduce motion, the strip holds still by design and you can scroll it sideways yourself instead.
3. Languages
The red badge, the label announced to screen readers and the help tooltip all follow the language you chose on your profile page (Gujarati, English, Hindi or Marathi).
The content — the headlines and pictures — is the newsroom's own Gujarati journalism, the same as every other page of the site.
4. When the strip is not there
If the newsroom is not running the strip, or the stories it should carry are not available at that moment, the strip removes itself completely — you will see no empty gap and no collapsed bar. That is normal, and it is not something to fix on your side.
Because it is part of the site header, this is site-wide: if it is missing on the page you are reading, it will be missing everywhere else too.
5. Troubleshooting
| What you notice | What it means |
|---|---|
| The strip is missing on every page | It is not running at that moment, or the stories it carries are not available. Nothing needs changing on your side; it returns on its own. |
| It was there earlier today and has gone | The stories it was carrying were changed or taken down. The strip comes back when there is something to show. |
| It still shows an older story | The strip refreshes on its own; a hard refresh (Ctrl+ Shift+R, or ⌘+ Shift+R) picks up the newest set immediately. |
| It does not move | It pauses while your pointer is over it or while a headline has keyboard focus — move the pointer away or press Tab on. If your device asks for reduced motion, standing still is intended, and you can scroll it sideways instead. |
| The badge is in a different language from the headlines | Expected: the badge follows your profile language, while the headlines are the newsroom's own Gujarati content. |
